In a radical action like Nam June Paik destroying a violin, and rolling up in bandages the bodies of the players in in a concert by Yoko Ono, the international avant-garde group Fluxus changed not only art, but the concept of it. Fluxus Replayed is a document of a 1991 performance in New York, which reproduced historical Fluxus performance pieces from the early 1960s. The S.E.M. Ensemble together with some of the Fluxus artists themselves, perform works by Nam June Paik, Yoko Ono, Dick Higgins, George Brecht, Allison Knowles, Ben Patterson, Jackson Mac Low and Emett Williams. Some Fluxus features performances from Miller's extensive archive, including works by Ay-O, Eric Anderson, George Brecht, Philip Corner, Jean Dupuy, Ken Friedman, Al Hansen, Geoffrey Hendricks, Dick Higgins, Joe Jones, Milan Knizak, Alison Knowles, Larry Miller, Takako Saito, Mieko Shiomi, Yasunao Tone, Yoshi Wada, Ben Vautier, and Robert Watts. Excerpts from Miller's 1978 Interview with George Maciunas are intercut with the performances, providing historical contextualization for this highly influential movement.

George Maciunas arranged a boat trip up the Hudson River on July 7, 1971. Many of the Fluxus friends joined the trip including Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Joe Jones, Bob Watts, and many others. Ken Jacobs, and Michael Snow are part of the cast. George and his mother, Leokadija Maciunas, are also present.

In 1961 Lithuanian American artist and impresario George Maciunas established the avant-garde art movement Fluxus. George details the rise of Fluxus following a sensationalized tour of “concerts” in Europe in 1962, and continuing in New York for most of the 1960s and ’70s. During this time Maciunas was converting the dying industrial buildings of Soho into a network of artists’ lofts, creating one of the first official real estate co-ops of artist-owned buildings. Maciunas’s life and legacy—as recounted by artists of his generation, including Yoko Ono and Jonas Mekas—ignited debates that remain pivotal to artists working today.
